The alphabet A? Nope, it's the letter A

An alphabet is made of these... abcdefg....xyz

An 'a' is a letter of the alphabet.

So is 'b', 'c', 'd'....

There are 26 letters in the English alphabet.

It's not 26 alphabets. Oh no siree, alphabet is definitely not interchangeable with letter. No, no, and plain no.

Can you distinguish the alphabet from the letter yet?

Granted, referring to it as 'the alphabet g' sounds so much cooler than saying 'the letter g'.

Yup, so much cooler if it's right.

Don't want to burst your bubbles, folks. But it's just plain wrong.

And don't get me started on the use of 'revert',  'improvise' and 'dateline'.
(The first two will be tackled in my future posts.)

Meanwhile, for 'dateline' head to my previous post 'dateline vs deadline'

Referring to any letter of the alphabet as the alphabet is wrong.

Confused?

Let me clear it up for you.

Correct: The letter  'a' is used twice in the word 'aura'.
Wrong: The alphabet  'a' is used twice in the word 'aura'.

Correct: There are 26 letters in the English alphabet.
Incorrect: There are 26 alphabets in the English alphabet.
Incorrect: There are 26 alphabets in the English letters.
